The Smart #2 is an upcoming battery electric city car produced by Smart. It is the two-door, two-seat successor to the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive (ED3, 2012-2015) and the Smart EQ Fortwo (ED4, 2016-2024).
While the 3rd generation used German technology with cells made in Germany, the 4th generation was a cooperation with the Renault Twingo using Renault motors and Korean battery cells. In 2019, the cooperation with Geely began. Like the earlier five-door # models, the #2 is built in China. It uses the Electric Compact Architecture (ECA) platform and is exclusively powered by an electric drivetrain, with approx. 35 kWh about twice the battery capacity, and CCS fast charging.
The production version of the Smart #2 is scheduled to make its official debut at the 2026 Paris Motor Show in October, ahead of its market launch in Europe and the United Kingdom.
History

The #2 was previewed by the Smart Concept #2 unveiled in the Beijing Auto Show in 2026. It was designed by Mercedes-Benz and adopts a traditional smart car short two-door body style with almost no front overhang, and wheels positioned at the corners of the body. Design features of the concept include LED lighting elements incorporating “#2” graphics, concealed door handles, a closed front grille, and a floating roof design.
Overview
Compared to the Concept #2, the production #2 retains the concept’s overall shape and design but with some subtler elements, such as traditional door handles and the lack of lower LED displays in the front.
Smart stated that the model is expected to offer a driving range of approximately 300 km (186 mi), support vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, and allow charging from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. The production model is also expected to retain a rear-wheel-drive layout and feature a more spacious two-seat interior.
The #2 uses a single motor producing a peak power of 60 kW (80 hp), same as the outgoing EQ, and a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery produced by CATL.
