The 2024–2025 Harley-Davidson Touring Milwaukee-Eight 117 (FLHX Street Glide New Gen) marks a significant evolution in the iconic American grand touring motorcycle lineup. Representing the most substantial redesign in nearly a decade, the new generation Street Glide introduces a host of updates aimed at improving performance, reducing weight, enhancing rider comfort, and integrating modern technology. Powered by an updated version of the potent Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin engine, this model blends traditional Harley-Davidson character with contemporary engineering and design, setting a new benchmark for the bagger category.
From Old to New: Key Differences
Compared to its predecessor, the new generation Street Glide is a leap forward. The most notable change is the updated Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine, which now features liquid-cooled cylinder heads for improved thermal management and a higher 10.3:1 compression ratio, resulting in increased power and torque. A redesigned airbox and intake tract further enhance performance.
Visually, the motorcycle is defined by its completely new “batwing” fairing, which is more aerodynamic and incorporates fully integrated LED lighting and turn signals for a cleaner, modern aesthetic. Technologically, the old analogue gauges and Boom! Box infotainment system have been replaced by a state-of-the-art 12.3-inch TFT touch-screen display powered by the new Skyline OS.
Crucially, the 2024–2025 model is significantly lighter, shedding 18 pounds (8.2 kg) compared to the previous Street Glide Special. This weight reduction, combined with a completely overhauled suspension system featuring a substantial increase in rear wheel travel from 2.1 inches to 3.0 inches, dramatically improves both handling dynamics and ride comfort.
The Upgraded Milwaukee-Eight 117 Powertrain
At the heart of the new FLHX Street Glide is the refined Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin engine. This 117-cubic-inch (1,923cc) powerplant has been engineered to deliver a more exhilarating riding experience. The introduction of liquid-cooled cylinder heads targets heat reduction around the exhaust valves, ensuring consistent performance and increased rider comfort, especially in slow-moving traffic or warmer climates.
The engine produces 105 horsepower and 130 ft-lb of torque, with a wider and more usable powerband. This is achieved through the higher compression ratio, a new 58mm throttle body, and a redesigned airbox that improves airflow. The result is a motorcycle that feels more responsive and powerful across the entire rev range, providing strong acceleration and effortless highway cruising.
Chassis, Aerodynamics, and Rider Experience
Harley-Davidson focused heavily on improving the new Street Glide’s handling and comfort. The lighter overall weight makes the bike feel more agile and easier to manage at low speeds. The new Showa suspension components are a major upgrade, with 47mm inverted front forks and dual rear shock absorbers that now offer 50% more travel (3.0 inches). This increased travel soaks up road imperfections far more effectively, providing a plusher ride without sacrificing stability.
The redesigned batwing fairing was developed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to optimize aerodynamics. The new shape, along with an adjustable air vane, significantly reduces helmet buffeting for the rider. This aerodynamic efficiency, combined with a redesigned seat and ergonomics, creates a more comfortable and less fatiguing experience on long journeys. Furthermore, the bike comes standard with selectable Ride Modes (Road, Sport, Rain, and Custom), allowing the rider to tailor the bike’s performance characteristics, including throttle response, engine braking, and intervention levels for the Cornering Antilock Braking System (C-ABS) and Cornering Traction Control System (C-TCS).
