The 2007–2013 Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 (FLHTCUSE Ultra Classic) is a series of limited-edition, factory-custom motorcycles produced by Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) division. Positioned as the pinnacle of the company’s Grand American Touring lineup during its production run, the FLHTCUSE combined the practicality and comfort of the standard Ultra Classic Electra Glide with exclusive aesthetic treatments, premium features, and the formidable performance of the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine, which was the largest displacement powertrain offered by the factory at the time.
Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) Philosophy
Harley-Davidson’s CVO program specializes in producing highly customized, limited-production models that showcase the brand’s potential for personalization straight from the factory. Each CVO model is equipped with a host of genuine Harley-Davidson parts and accessories that are otherwise sold as aftermarket upgrades. The FLHTCUSE Ultra Classic embodied this philosophy by taking an already well-appointed touring machine and enhancing it with unique, multi-layered paint schemes, extensive chrome components, premium audio systems, and upgraded rider and passenger accommodations. These motorcycles were built for discerning riders seeking exclusivity and the highest level of factory-installed features and performance.
The Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 Engine and Performance
The heart of the FLHTCUSE is its Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 V-twin engine. Displacing 110 cubic inches (1803 cc), this air-cooled powertrain was a significant upgrade over the standard Twin Cam 96 (1584 cc) and later Twin Cam 103 (1690 cc) engines found in the mainstream Harley-Davidson touring family. The larger bore and stroke of the Twin Cam 110 provided a substantial increase in torque, delivering strong, immediate acceleration ideal for long-distance highway cruising, even when fully loaded with a passenger and luggage.
Paired with a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission, the engine operated at a lower RPM on the highway, reducing vibration and improving fuel economy. This powertrain combination ensured that the FLHTCUSE was not just a showpiece but a highly capable cross-country touring motorcycle, offering smooth, commanding performance that set it apart from its standard-production counterparts.
Features and Model Year Evolution
Throughout its 2007–2013 production, the FLHTCUSE saw several key updates and refinements. Compared to the standard Ultra Classic, the CVO version consistently offered a superior package of features.
Key Distinctions and Enhancements:
Aesthetics: Every model year featured unique, intricate, hand-finished paint jobs unavailable on any other model. Chrome was applied liberally, covering the forks, wheels, controls, and engine components.
Comfort: Heated leather seats and grips, adjustable passenger backrests, and advanced suspension systems were standard.
Technology: Premium Harman/Kardon audio systems, often with navigation and intercom capabilities, were included. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) became a standard feature during this period.
Chassis Improvements: A significant update occurred in 2009 when Harley-Davidson introduced a new touring frame across the lineup. This frame provided a stiffer chassis, a wider rear tire, and revised engine mounting, resulting in markedly improved handling, stability, and ride comfort, particularly for a heavyweight machine like the CVO Ultra Classic.
These enhancements meant that the difference between an FLHTCUSE and a standard model was not just the engine but a complete, top-to-bottom upgrade in performance, comfort, technology, and style.
