2007–2008 Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 (FLHRSE Road King)

The 2007–2008 Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 (FLHRSE Road King) is a limited-edition, factory-custom touring motorcycle produced by Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) division. Representing the pinnacle of the Road King lineup during its production run, the FLHRSE combined the classic styling of the base model with significant performance upgrades, exclusive paint schemes, and a comprehensive suite of premium accessories. These models were aimed at discerning riders seeking a unique, high-performance cruiser with top-of-the-line appointments directly from the factory.

The CVO program takes standard production models and transforms them into highly stylized, limited-production machines. For the 2007 (FLHRSE3) and 2008 (FLHRSE4) Road King, this meant a complete aesthetic and mechanical overhaul. Each model year featured unique, multi-layered candy and ghost-flame paint schemes applied by hand, setting them apart visually. These bikes were adorned with extensive chrome, including custom handlebars, switch housings, and lower fork sliders. A key visual element was the “Road Winder” forged and chrome-plated aluminum wheels, which were exclusive to the CVO model.

The Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 Engine

At the core of the FLHRSE Road King’s appeal is its powertrain. The motorcycle is equipped with the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine, a 110-cubic-inch (1803cc), air-cooled V-twin. At the time, this was the largest-displacement engine ever offered in a production Harley-Davidson. Paired with a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission, the engine delivered a significant increase in torque and horsepower compared to the standard Twin Cam 96 engine found in the regular Road King. This upgrade provided strong acceleration and effortless highway cruising, even when fully loaded with a passenger and gear. The engine featured a high-flow air cleaner and a performance-tuned exhaust system to maximize its output.

Differences from the Standard Model

The distinction between the CVO Road King and its standard counterpart is substantial. The primary difference lies in the powertrain, with the CVO featuring the exclusive 110ci engine versus the standard 96ci. Beyond the engine, the FLHRSE came equipped with a host of upgrades that were optional or unavailable on the standard model. These included:

Exclusive Aesthetics: Limited-edition paint and graphics, extensive chrome components, and model-specific badging.
Upgraded Components: Custom “Road Winder” wheels, a two-piece leather seat with custom inserts, and a chrome console.
Premium Features: A detachable windshield, custom leather-covered hard saddlebags, a security system, and an indoor storage cover were all included as standard equipment.
Braking System: While the standard touring models received Brembo brakes in 2008, the CVO line featured them as a premium component. The 2008 FLHRSE4 model also included an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard, a significant safety enhancement for the platform.

Chassis and Features

The FLHRSE is built on Harley-Davidson’s robust touring chassis, designed for long-distance comfort and stability. The suspension consists of a 41.3mm telescopic front fork and dual air-adjustable rear shocks, allowing riders to tune the ride for payload and road conditions. The riding position is classic Road King, with a wide, pullback handlebar and spacious floorboards contributing to all-day comfort.

The instrumentation is housed in a chrome “speedo/tach” nacelle that is both functional and stylish. The bike featured electronic throttle control (“throttle-by-wire”), which provided smooth throttle response and enabled the integration of electronic cruise control. Every detail, from the custom hand grips and mirrors to the braided stainless steel control cables, was curated to create a cohesive and premium factory-custom motorcycle.
