The 2009–2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna CVO Twin Cam 110 (FXDFSE CVO Fat Bob) is a limited-production, factory-custom motorcycle produced by Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) division. Representing the pinnacle of the Dyna platform during its production years, this model combined the muscular, aggressive styling of the then-new Fat Bob with the largest-displacement engine and most premium components available from the factory. The FXDFSE was built for riders seeking a unique, high-performance cruiser with exclusive features and hand-finished details that set it apart from standard production models.
Design and CVO Philosophy
Harley-Davidson’s CVO program specializes in creating highly customized, limited-edition models equipped with Screamin’ Eagle performance parts, exclusive paint schemes, and numerous accessories from the Parts & Accessories catalog. The FXDFSE CVO Fat Bob was a prime example of this philosophy applied to the agile and powerful Dyna chassis.
The base Fat Bob model, introduced in 2008, was already known for its pugnacious, bobber-inspired stance, characterized by its solid disc wheels, dual headlamps, and chunky tires. The CVO version amplified this presence significantly. Designers applied intricate, multi-layered paint jobs that were unavailable on any other model, featuring hand-laid graphics and deep, rich colors. The motorcycle was adorned with an extensive array of chrome components, including the fork sliders, triple clamps, and engine covers. A defining feature was the 16-inch “Fang” wheels—a polished and chrome-plated cast aluminum design exclusive to this CVO model.
Drivetrain and Performance
At the heart of the CVO Fat Bob is the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine. At the time of its release, this 110-cubic-inch (1803 cc) powerhouse was the largest engine offered by Harley-Davidson. The air-cooled, 45-degree V-Twin featured electronic sequential port fuel injection (ESPFI) and was paired with a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission. This combination delivered a substantial amount of torque, providing strong acceleration across the powerband.
The engine’s performance was further enhanced by a high-flow “Heavy Breather” intake and a distinctive chrome “Tommy Gun” 2-1-2 exhaust system. This exhaust was designed not only for a signature sound but also to complement the motorcycle’s muscular aesthetic. The powertrain was rubber-mounted to the Dyna frame, a design choice that isolated the rider from excessive vibration while still allowing the characteristic pulse of the V-Twin engine to be felt.
Differences from the Preceding CVO Dyna
The 2009 CVO Fat Bob marked a stylistic departure from its direct predecessor, the 2008 FXDSE2 Screamin’ Eagle Dyna. While the FXDSE2 was based on the more traditional Dyna Super Glide platform with a leaner profile and classic cruiser lines, the FXDFSE embraced a bolder, more contemporary bobber look.
Key differences included:
Styling: The Fat Bob featured a much heavier aesthetic, with its signature dual headlights, a wide 130mm front tire, a fat 180mm rear tire, and a bobtail rear fender. This contrasted with the FXDSE2’s single headlight and narrower, spoked wheels.
Ergonomics: The FXDFSE came standard with forward foot controls and a drag-style handlebar on a custom riser, creating a more aggressive, stretched-out riding position compared to the mid-controls and pull-back bars of the previous CVO Dyna.
* Wheels: The solid, polished “Fang” wheels of the CVO Fat Bob were a major visual statement, moving away from the wire-spoke or slotted cast wheels of earlier models.
Key Features of the 2009–2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna CVO Twin Cam 110 (FXDFSE CVO Fat Bob)
This model was packed with exclusive components that distinguished it as a top-tier factory custom.
Exclusive Paint and Finishes
For 2009, the FXDFSE was offered in Denim Granite with Electric Blue Fade graphics. The 2010 model year introduced two new colorways: Opal Blue with Black Diamond and Black Diamond with Fire Quartz, both featuring intricate, ghosted graphics on the fuel tank and fenders.
Chassis and Suspension
The Dyna frame was finished in a special granite powdercoat. The suspension was lowered from the factory to give the bike a slammed, custom profile. It featured chrome 49mm front forks and chrome coil-over rear shocks. This setup provided a firm ride consistent with its performance-oriented, custom-cruiser intent.
Unique Components
Other standout features included a distressed brown leather two-up seat with a custom inlay, a complete collection of billet aluminum and chrome CVO accessories (grips, pegs, and controls), a chrome low-profile fuel tank console, and a standard Harley-Davidson Smart Security System. The internally-wired handlebar and braided stainless steel lines for the clutch and brakes ensured a clean, uncluttered appearance.
