2014–2016 Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 (FLHTKSE Limited)

The 2014–2016 Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 (FLHTKSE Limited) represents a pinnacle of factory-custom touring motorcycles, combining the grand touring capabilities of the Electra Glide Ultra Limited with the exclusive performance and style of Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) program. This specific generation is notable for being the first CVO Limited to incorporate the sweeping updates of Project RUSHMORE, a customer-led initiative that redefined comfort, performance, and technology across the company’s touring lineup.

These models were positioned at the top of Harley-Davidson’s offerings, intended for riders seeking a turnkey luxury touring experience with no expense spared. Each motorcycle featured exclusive paint schemes, premium components, and the most powerful air-cooled engine available from the factory at the time.

Project RUSHMORE Enhancements

The most significant distinction between the 2014–2016 models and their predecessors was the full integration of Project RUSHMORE features. This initiative brought about substantial upgrades designed to enhance the riding experience over long distances.

Key differences from the pre-2014 CVO Limited include:

Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 110 Engine: While previous CVOs featured a 110-cubic-inch engine, the 2014 model introduced a “Twin-Cooled” version. This system used liquid coolant routed through the cylinder heads around the exhaust valves, combined with a traditional air-cooling system. The coolant was managed by two small radiators cleverly integrated into the fairing lowers, providing more consistent performance and improved thermal comfort for the rider and passenger, especially in slow-moving traffic.
Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS: The braking system was upgraded to an electronically linked system. At speeds above 20-25 mph, applying either the front or rear brake would dynamically distribute braking force to both wheels, optimizing stopping power and stability. ABS was standard.
Boom! Box 6.5GT Infotainment System: This was a major technological leap. The previous model’s audio system was replaced with a full-color touchscreen display featuring GPS navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, and integrated controls.
Redesigned Batwing Fairing: The iconic fairing was updated with a new “slipstream” vent. This vent, located below the windshield, was designed to reduce helmet buffeting for the rider by equalizing pressure between the front and back of the fairing.
* Upgraded Ergonomics and Lighting: The 2014 model introduced one-touch saddlebags and Tour-Pak latches, a redesigned passenger area for more comfort, and powerful Daymaker LED headlights and fog lamps for superior visibility.

Engine and Drivetrain of the 2014–2016 Harley-Davidson CVO Twin Cam 110 (FLHTKSE Limited)

At the heart of the FLHTKSE was the Screamin’ Eagle Twin-Cooled Twin Cam 110 engine. Displacing 110 cubic inches (1802 cc), this V-Twin was the largest-displacement engine offered by Harley-Davidson at the time. It was equipped with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and was tuned to deliver substantial torque at low RPM, a characteristic highly valued by touring riders.

The engine produced approximately 115 ft-lb of torque, providing strong acceleration and effortless passing power, even when fully loaded with a passenger and luggage. The addition of precision liquid cooling to the cylinder heads allowed the engine to maintain a higher compression ratio and more aggressive ignition timing, resulting in more consistent power delivery and reduced engine heat felt by the rider. This power was delivered to the rear wheel through a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission and a carbon-fiber reinforced belt drive.

Chassis, Suspension, and Styling

The FLHTKSE was built on Harley-Davidson’s robust touring frame, designed for stability and comfort on long highways. The suspension consisted of stout 49mm telescopic front forks and dual air-adjustable rear shocks, allowing riders to tune the preload for varying loads. The ride was plush and controlled, absorbing road imperfections with ease.

As a CVO model, styling was paramount. Each model year offered a selection of intricate, multi-layered paint schemes with hand-applied graphics that were exclusive to the CVO line. Chrome was used extensively, covering everything from the Slicer custom wheels to the engine covers and controls. Rider and passenger comfort was addressed with a premium heated hammock-style seat, heated handgrips, and adjustable air deflectors. The bike came fully equipped with a color-matched Tour-Pak luggage carrier featuring an integrated passenger backrest, luggage rack, and LED lighting, along with spacious saddlebags and fairing lowers with storage compartments.
