Engine Oil Checking Procedure
Regularly checking the engine oil level is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your 2024 Honda Goldwing. Follow these steps to ensure your engine is properly lubricated:
-
Disable the Idling Stop System: Before checking the oil, ensure that the Idling Stop system is disabledÂ
-
Warm Up the Engine: If the engine is cold, start the engine and let it idle for 3 to 5 minutes to warm up.
-
Turn Off the Engine: After warming up, turn the ignition switch OFF and wait for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the oil to settle.
-
Position the Vehicle: Place your Goldwing in an upright position on a firm, level surface.
-
Check the Oil Level:
- Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.
- Reinsert the dipstick fully without screwing it in.
- Remove the dipstick again and check the oil level. The oil should be between the upper and lower level marks.
-
Reinstall the Dipstick: Once you’ve confirmed the oil level, securely reinstall the dipstick.
- Idle Speed: The idle speed for your Goldwing is set at 730 ± 100 rpm and is nonadjustable.
Recommended Engine Oil
For optimal engine performance, use the following engine oil specifications:
- API Service Classification: SJ or higher (avoid oils labeled as energy conserving or resource conserving).
- Viscosity: SAE 10W-30.
- Standard: JASO T 903 MA.
- Recommended Brands: Pro Honda GN4 4-stroke oil (USA & Canada) or Honda 4-stroke oil, or an equivalent motorcycle oil.
Engine Oil Capacity
- After Draining: 4.6 US quarts (4.4 liters).
- After Draining & Oil Filter Change: 4.9 US quarts (4.6 liters).
- After Draining, Engine & Clutch Oil Filter Change: 4.9 US quarts (4.6 liters).
- After Disassembly: 5.9 US quarts (5.6 liters).
Adding Engine Oil
If the oil level is below or near the lower mark, add oil as follows:
-
Remove the Oil Fill Cap: Add the recommended engine oil until it reaches the upper level mark.
- Ensure your vehicle is in an upright position on a firm, level surface when checking the oil level.
- Avoid overfilling above the upper level mark.
- Ensure no foreign objects enter the oil filler opening.
- Wipe up any spills immediately.
-
Reinstall the Oil Fill Cap: Once the oil level is correct, securely reinstall the oil fill cap.
Important Notice
Overfilling with oil or operating with insufficient oil can cause serious damage to your engine. Do not mix different brands and grades of oil, as this may negatively affect lubrication and clutch operation.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your 2024 Honda Goldwing’s engine remains in peak condition, providing you with a smooth and reliable riding experience.
